How to Treat Histrionic Personality Disorder in therapy
Histrionic personality is a personality disorder characterized by one person wanting to be the center of attention all the time. Personality disordered people have difficulty admitting they need help because they do not feel they need therapy at all unless their life takes a total nosedive that makes coping impossible. Therapy is a treatment of choice but group therapy or family therapy is not helpful because histrionics need to be the center of attention all the time, even if picking fights is one way to get that going for them. Therapy is too much work for these kinds of people, work they are unwilling to do for themselves. Many therapists do not want to treat people with histrionic because of attachment problems that people with histrionic personality have.
