What is Cortisol related stress?

September 3, 2020

Cortisol is a stress hormone that contributes to a wound up feeling.  It is what makes you feel keyed up.  Stress management is all about making sure that cortisol stays contained because it helps control mood, motivation, and fear.  The body needs to have carbohydrates, fats, and proteins, to keep inflammation manageable since inflammation causes illness. Blood pressure can either be too high or too low, mine is too high, but can drop if I distract my brain from ranting about my family. The hypothalamus and pituitary gland are located in your brain, with your brain adjusting the amounts of hormones it makes.

In a bipolar person, too much cortisol is what causes mania or anxiety.  Anxious people feel hyped up on anxiety and are lucky they don’t have mania with anxiety because that can be hell. The adrenal glands adjust the amount of cortisol in your body accordingly.  Stress can flat out kill a person by causing a heart attack.  Anxiety and depression are caused by high cortisol, which is something I deal with on a regular basis. Too much cortisol causes headaches, (had in the past), heart disease, memory and concentration problems, digestion issues, trouble sleeping, and weight gain.  Having a nodule in your adrenal gland or a tumor in the pituitary can cause someone’s body to make too much cortisol, this turns into what is called Cushing Syndrome, leading to rapid weight gain, skin that bruises easily, muscle weakness, diabetes, and other major health problems like cancer.

A certain amount of cortisol is necessary for day-to-day function since cortisol needs vary on such a level.  Constant stress is not good for you, period.  Taking on too much is what causes stress, and avoiding wise counsel is stress on the brain is unable to comprehend what is said. Too much stress takes a heavy toll on the body. Workaholism is a bad scenario, as the gods do not care about how much money you have; rather they care about how you treated people.  Having too little cortisol is also a thing, because Addison’s disease results from that, causing changes in your skin like dark scars, in skin folds, being tired all the time, muscle weakness that grows worse, diarrhea, nausea, and vomiting, loss of appetite and weight, and low blood pressure.  Now the pituitary gland is also a psychic center, so you can imagine what stress is associated with for me, as a psychic.  There are treatments for not making enough cortisol in the form of dexamethasone, hydrocortisone, or presidone tablets.  I thankfully, get enough sleep in the present, being far less sleep-deprived than I ever was.
