Histrionic Personality Disorder

August 25, 2018

Histrionic personality is what somebody does to get attention, acting in ways to keep other people’s attention. They use their physical appearance to make people pay attention to them somehow. They will say something like “You have chocolate all over your finger,” to describe a very small amount of chocolate on your finger. https://www.merckmanuals.com/professional/psychiatric-disorders/personality-disorders/histrionic-personality-disorder-hpd. Histrionics need to be the center of attention at all times, getting uncomfortable when they are not. People who have this disorder can be shallow while they pursue somebody flirtatiously. https://psychcentral.com/disorders/histrionic-personality-disorder/. The histrionic is either a victim or a princess. If they have borderline and narcissism, all in one person, then they don’t feel they need help.

Same-sex friends have problems with the histrionic’s attempt to get attention from people. They have constant demands for attention. Histrionics like novelties, stimulation for their otherwise boring existence, since they get bored with their routine. They get frustrated when having to delay gratification. They start projects with enthusiasm but then it gets dull fast. They get excited at new relationships but they don’t maintain their long-term relationships. Non-histrionics don’t need to be the center of attention all the time. I actually loathe the thought because I don’t often need to be paid attention to. I’m content hiding in the shadows.

If somebody is bipolar and histrionic they have a rapid shifting of emotions even faster than an average histrionic. Histrionics use physical appearance to draw attention to themselves, some show theatric emotion while being highly suggestible. Personality disorder is diagnosed in adulthood compared to adolescence or childhood. There are more histrionic females than males. Medication can help all personality disorders, really, because it works. Some people are just paranoid about medication in general. So why bother being paranoid when medication helps you? Get some and try it.
