Schizophrenia – What it Is

September 20, 2019

I didn’t know I had schizophrenia until I was 30. I figured it out in my own psychology class more or less while in high school, the first semester of sophomore year. I wasn’t allowed to take medication until I was 20. Yes, that is a long time to go without knowing what a decent night’s sleep felt like or how being well-rested feels like. Schizophrenia is caused by my 22q genetic deletion disability. I was born with patent ductus asclerosis but that somehow cleared up on its own. Well, there is more than a lot to say about this situation, but it is Not Safe for Zod, and it might sound starseed crazy.

But anyway, yes, I do not feel that disability is part of our life chart. Anybody who says that to a disabled person cheapens the person’s self-respect. Schizophrenia is present in those of us who have it, from birth. The symptoms don’t really kick in until your 20s, but I was having them from childhood. I didn’t sleep well at age 1. I stayed up with my awake mother for goodness sake. There are toddlers out there who need medication. That really does happen, and this is why I want to become a psychiatrist who specializes in children’s medication needs.
